Mazda 2: Rear Oil Seal
REAR OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the transaxle. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
[FN4A-EL]
(ATX) ). (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [F35M-R] (MTX) ).
2. Remove the drive plate (ATX) or the flywheel (MTX). (See DRIVE PLATE
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FN4A-EL] (ATX) ). (See CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
[F35M-R] (MTX) ).
3. Remove the oil seal lip using a cutting knife.
4. Remove the oil seal using a flathead screwdriver with the tip protected by a
rag to
prevent crankshaft oil seal damage.

5. Apply clean engine oil to a new rear oil seal.
6. Insert the oil seal into the cylinder block by hand.
7. Install the rear oil seal using the SST.


Pushing distance of the rear oil seal (from the edge of the cylinder
block)
8. Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the following parts:
Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
Shift lever knob (MTX) (See MANUAL TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
Side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALL
If the High engine coolant temperature
warning light illuminates, the vehicle loses
power, or you hear a loud knocking or
pinging noise, the engine is probably too
hot.
WARNING
Switch the ignition to
off and
make sure the fan is not running
before attempting to work near the
cooling fan:
